Ask Us Who We Are to be Shown in Burlington on Saturday.

It’s a powerful documentary about the experience of foster care in Vermont. It will be shown on Saturday, May 12th, at 7:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, corner of Buell Street and South Winooski Ave., in Burlington. This evening is free and open to the public. Call Sue at 802.658.7441 for more information. This evening is hosted by the Justice and Social Concerns Ministry Team of First United Methodist Church.  Children often move between placements with their belongings in plastic garbage bags. If you would like to donate a suitcase in good condition, please bring it.

May Day Planting time is coming this Sunday.

Save May 13th on your calendar.   Come at fellowship time (served in Fellowship Hall that day) to help us pot up some flowers to deliver to our members unable to join us at church.   Please bring in some 6” pots before that time as our supply is getting low.  -- Thank you.  Starr LaJoice

Special Offering for VIM Mozambique 2012

As part of the worship celebration next week, May 20th, we will be highlighting the Volunteer In Mission (VIM) trip to Mozambique this July.

Larry & Ann Barber will be leading a Volunteer in Mission (VIM) team to Mozambique in July 2012.

The team will be working on the creation of the Mozambique Institute for Health Sciences, a training school for nurses and public health workers, to be located at the Chicuque Rural Hospital.  The Team has set a fund raising goal of $20,000 to purchase supplies for the construction of one classroom at the new teaching facility.  Our Church has supported Jeremais Franca, Chicuque Hospital Administrator and Chicuque hospital for several years.  There will be a special offering envelope for this mission.

There will also be a bulletin insert describing the project in more detail including ways you can show your support.

Nursery Volunteers Needed:  Do you enjoy being with toddlers?  Nursery volunteers are urgently needed.

This is such an important ministry to our families with young children.  It can be so disheartening for parents to arrive at church, only to find that, once again, they cannot participate in worship because the nursery is unattended.  If you can spare spending a single Sunday during worship with our smallest members, please sign-up on the whiteboard in the back of the church.  Remember, we need two adults each Sunday.  So please try to fill that second slot if at all possible.

Thanks!!  Mark D. Jacunski

CARE NET BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN:  It’s that time of the year again – Care Net Pregnancy Center’s Baby Bottle Campaign is just around the corner. You can pick up your baby bottle on Mother’s Day here at the church, fill it with your spare change and return it here on Father’s Day. Make it a family project! Your spare change really does save lives through Care Net’s life-affirming ministry. Please see Bob Purvee for any questions and thank you for participating.

Capital Campaign Conversations:

You may have heard discussions about a Capital Campaign at FUMC.  Your Board of Trustees are in the early stages of such a campaign.  All are invited to prayerfully assess where we are, and discern where we are headed.   Over the next month or two a subcommittee of trustees consisting of Pastor Mark, Lindsay Townsend, Radetta Nemcosky, Margaret Welch and myself will meet with members of the church who are interested or have a passion for one of 11 ministry areas that we have named.  If you would like to participate and provide us your opinion on our questionnaire please see one of the subcommittee members or call us.  Frequently Most asked Question from those church members who received my "Dear John" letter last week.  “How did I get assigned into one of the 11 groups and what does that mean?”   Very simply the subcommittee thought you had a passion for this area of the church and we value your opinion as it relates to discerning where we are headed.

-- John Hunt, Board of Trustees
