TENNESSEE FLOOD RELIEF
A note from Tennessee Conference Disaster Response Coordinator Jason Brock:
Currently we are in transition from cleanup to rebuilding, expecting to need teams from late summer through the next 18 months to 2 years. Across 28 declared counties, we are expecting upwards of 2,400 long term recovery cases, many involving construction. We are currently putting together our team info packet, team size, age restrictions, forms, etc. for rebuild teams. However, interested churches can go ahead and make an initial inquiry to DisasterResponse@tnumc.com and we'll provide them an initial registration form to get on our calendar. We will post periodic information at http://tnumcrelief.blogspot.com/ and will soon have an email newsletter available. Our disaster phone line is 615-695-2765. All disaster communications should be sent to our DisasterResponse@tnumc.com email address so copies of correspondence are shared among the Conference Disaster Response Team.

HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
UMVIM, NEJ is excited to announce a new website detailing UMVIM guidelines and scheduling information for mission teams interested in serving in Haiti.
The UMVIM Haiti Response website, umvimhaiti.org, has been set up through a coordinated effort between all five jurisdictional UMVIM offices, the General Board of Global Ministries, and UMCOR. On this site, you will find all applicable information about traveling to Haiti through UMVIM, including contact information for the UMVIM Haiti Scheduling Coordinator, Susan Meister. Also detailed on that site is information relating to the Haiti Response Plan staff, both in Haiti and in the US.
All news regarding UMVIM's efforts in Haiti will now be posted on this site, and all teams will be scheduled through it. Insurance for teams through the Northeastern Jurisdiction will continue to be coordinated through the NEJ office. Information about NEJ's insurance program can be found at its website, www.umvimnej.org.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief opened a field office in Port-au-Prince and is hiring full-time staff as part of a five-year plan to help rebuild Haiti after the Jan. 12 earthquake. click here to give

There are openings on a scheduled August 17-25, 2010 UMVIM Team to Haiti, coordinated by the Alabama-West Florida Conference. The team will be lead by Rev. John Fox, Auburn UMC, Auburn, Alabama, who has extended experience in Haiti. If you know of someone, particularly a potential team leader, who is looking for a team, please have them contact Glenn Glover ASAP.
The cost will be $655 per person plus airfare (currently $595 from Atlanta to Port au Prince), plus we ask that your church provide $350 towards the required $3500 project costs required for each team. UMCOR is matching the $3500 donation, so that $7000 will actually be available for use in Haiti.
The team plans to purchase individual airline tickets (as opposed to group tickets). Once the team is set and the airline schedule is determined, you will be responsible for purchasing your airline ticket to match the airline schedule for the AWF team, if possible (AWF team will fly from Atlanta to Miami to Port au Prince -- hopefully on the same day). If not possible, or substantially cheaper, you must plan to arrive in/depart from Haiti on the same day as the AWF team to accommodate transportation in Haiti. Some flight schedules require an overnight stay in Miami or if we leave early, you may want to overnight in Atlanta.
Please email Glenn Glover at umvim@awfumc.org if you are interested in participating or have questions. Once an open slot is confirmed, I will email you an application form to complete A $500 deposit will be required with the application.
