Following the 2010 May and August floods in Middle Tennessee, a Flood Disaster Relief Team was created at the Tennessee Conference of The United Methodist Church to assist 3-5000 of the 40,000 households affected by this disaster.
The Tennessee Conference is the leader in long term flood recovery across Middle Tennessee. We are currently working with 19 Long-term Recovery Committees in 31 counties, are the central volunteer registration and coordination center for all the faith-based groups helping in Middle Tennessee and are the only faith group involved across this extensive an area. We have trained approximately 224 case managers, have provided needs assistance to several hundreds of individual cases, and are projecting needing to be involved with the survivors over the next 18-24 months.
Disaster Response Teams that the TN Conference has coordinated have logged approx. 23,364 hours valued at $471,920.
This shows an enormous ongoing effort to serve Christ and Neighbor. This is based on approx 67 teams thus far working in all 7 districts of the TN Conference. Additional teams continue to be scheduled to arrive in TN for this Disaster Response effort and to date another 50+ have been registered through next summer 2011.
