| Music Ministry - Welcome to the Music Ministry at First United Methodist Church! |
|
| Music Ministry Philosophy All of God’s children should have the opportunity to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Every attempt is made to involve as many persons as are interested in the music ministry of our church. Those who are not able to commit the time and energy to weekly rehearsals are invited to share once in a while, whether vocally or instrumentally. A list is maintained of musicians whom we contact for special music, such as brass for Thanksgiving, or woodwinds for Lent. We also have liturgical dancers and others who lead liturgical movement. Music is planned to coordinate with the message of the season, so that our worship experience may be made richer through word and song. We hope all will feel uplifted by the music. Please let us know of your musical talents. |

| Chancel Choir | ![]() |
| Our chancel choir is open to anyone from 8th grade and above who loves to sing praises to God. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from September to May. This choir sings at Sunday morning worship services throughout the year until summer season begins. Our Summer Choir is open to all ages with no rehearsals involved. Easy, familiar or sight-readable music is chosen so that interested persons may come forward at the time of the morning anthem and just sing! We also have several permanent ensembles made up mostly from the choir such as: Psalter Shakers, Creation Singers, Mission Aires, and an a cappella quartet. |

| Handbells and Choir Chimes | ![]() |
| We have 4+ octaves of Schulmerich Handbells, and 3 octaves of Malmark Choir Chimes. The handbell choir rehearses early Thursday evenings. In this group, dedication to rehearsals is a must, as is the ability to read music. Prior ringing experience is helpful but not required. We have several openings in this group and if there is enough interest, we may form a second handbell choir. | |

| Praise Band | ![]() |
| The Praise Band is directed by Steve Oakland and consists of seven members who provide music for the Sunday morning worship on the third Sunday of most months. In addition to singers, we have keyboards, flutes, guitars, drums, and color instruments. If you have experience in such a group, talk to Steve. We are especially interested in adding a bass player. |

| Cherub Chimers Our children love ringing the choir chimes. At this time we have a group from kindergarten through grade 6 called the Cherub Chimers, which plays from time to time in church. It is not necessary for the younger children to be able to read music. All are welcome to this group which is directed by Katie Reed. |

| Further Opportunities An instrumental ensemble of students in grades 7- 9 performed at a festival service. We are hoping that this ensemble can be enlarged and made permanent. Our Chancel Choir participates in joint ecumenical services and concerts with First Baptist Church, Shelburne United Methodist Church, College Street Congregational Church, and other churches in the community. We are happy to present to the community touring choirs when they become available. Our musicians strongly support Sunday worship services with a wide variety of musical styles, ranging from classical to contemporary, solo to choir, and band to bells. If you are interested in being part of our ministry through music, please contact the church office at 862-1151. |
