Witnessing and Inviting Ministries
As a community of faith led by the Spirit, we seek to grow in openness to all of God’s children, inviting them to share the journey of faith and welcome one another as brothers and sisters. Some of our church’s ministries help us to draw others into fellowship and to receive them in the spirit of grace and love.
Cooperative Christian Campus Ministry (CCM) The United Methodist Church is one of six dominations which make up an ecumenical Protestant Ministry presence on the campus of the University of Vermont.
College Age Invitation This ministry area was created earlier this year. Each fall, we have many college students from the University of Vermont, St. Michael’s College, and Champlain College that become participants in our church. This fall we will inaugurate a new ministry: we will team college aged students with host families who will treat them to brunch or lunch after our worship service in order to have a more intimate fellowship time with students than is possible during our Sunday morning coffee hour. It is our hope that our new college aged friends will learn more about our church family and want to become more involved in our church life during their college years in Burlington.
Inviting Ministries /The P.I.E. Ministry Church members of this ministry area visit newcomers to our church providing them with information about our church programs and the various ministries of our church…and yes, they bring a pie or some other kind of goodie, too!
Media Services & Communications This is the “information arm” of our church getting out the message of those events that are happening in the various ministry areas of our church. Such events that have recently been publicized include our Advent and Lenten Music Series, Jazz Sunday, the United Methodist Women’s Harvest Luncheon, and other special one time events.
African Dancing and Drumming This ministry area was just created this past May. As our diverse community grows, and particularly as we have more and more African immigrants moving to Burlington, our congregation has grown as well. African Dancing and Drumming is one of the gifts our new friends have brought to our congregation. Our church has hosted this program of entertainment and fellowship several times during the spring and summer and will continue through the fall.
Fifth Annual Neighborhood BBQ The 5th Annual Neighborhood BBQ will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2008 beginning at 11:15 a.m. There will be free food, the bands “The Willoughby’s” and “The Dixie Red Delights”, children’s games, a “bounce castle” and always a surprise or two! Please come for all the festivities! Please continue to check this link for the latest information.
Prayer Letters Prayer is an underlying foundation of the spiritual life of our church. Each Sunday we have letters to those for whom we pray available for members of our congregation to sign. These letters are located immediately after the worship service in the back of the church.
